Normal HVAC Sounds
Expected Noises - Clicking when starting or stopping - Gentle hum during operation - Slight whoosh of airflow - Occasional creak from ductwork
These are typically fine: - Brief sounds at startup - Consistent background noise - Sounds that have always been there
Concerning Sounds
Banging or Clanking **Possible causes:** - Loose component - Broken part inside unit - Unbalanced blower
Action: Turn off system and call for service.
Squealing or Screeching **Possible causes:** - Worn belt - Motor bearing problems - Blower issues
Action: Schedule service soon to prevent damage.
Grinding **Possible causes:** - Motor bearings failing - Metal-on-metal contact - Serious mechanical issue
Action: Turn off system immediately. Metal grinding can cause extensive damage.
Buzzing **Possible causes:** - Electrical issue - Loose parts - Failing component
